There are several good free career tests and career sites. This page compares Career Change Finder with four well-known options, using only what each site states about itself, so you can pick the one that fits what you need. We checked each site on October 27, 2026; prices and features can change, so check the site itself before you pay for anything.

My Next Move

My Next Move is the U.S. Department of Labor's own career site. It covers more than 900 careers with tasks, skills and BLS pay, and offers a short version of the O*NET Interest Profiler. Choose it if you want the official government tool. Career Change Finder uses the same O*NET data and the longer 60-item Interest Profiler form, and also offers career change matches, state pay pages and career lists.

CareerExplorer

CareerExplorer offers a free career test that takes about 30 minutes across five modules, with a paid membership for extra tools and guidance. Choose it if you want a long, detailed assessment and may want the extra tools of a paid membership. Choose Career Change Finder if you want a shorter test with no sign-up, or want to start from the job you have now.

Truity

Truity offers the Career Personality Profiler, with 94 questions based on the Holland Code and the Big Five. You get a free summary without giving an email address, and the full report costs a small fee. Choose it if you want a detailed paid report that combines interests and personality. Career Change Finder's Big Five test and career test are free in full.

123test

123test has a quick picture-based career test: 15 sets of four activities, about 5 to 10 minutes, based on the Holland Code. Choose it if you want the fastest possible test. Choose Career Change Finder if you want to see pay, education and skill gaps for each career with the government source.

Where Career Change Finder falls short

  • It covers U.S. careers and U.S. pay only.
  • There are no accounts, so test results are not saved across devices.
  • There is no personal coaching. For that, a free American Job Center is a good next step.
  • Match scores are our estimate of how much of your experience carries over, not a guarantee. See our Methodology.
